How to create a plan for your life and money!

September 21, 2022

You know I love talking about creating a plan for your money. Today I want to challenge you to create a plan for your life! And what does that look like? Well, let’s go over some basics, I love getting back to the basics!

A lot of comments that I get are about how “money isn’t everything in life!” and I don’t agree! “Money isn’t the most important thing in life, but it’s reasonably close to oxygen on the ‘gotta have it’ scale.” – as Zig Ziglar put it, and so well must I add!

When people tell me that, it’s not the most important, either, they have a lot, or they don’t have enough. I have never had a lot but I have definitely had “not enough” and that was one of my favourite lines. And if I’m being very honest, I said it with an air of superiority that translated into “just because you have more than me doesn’t mean you are better off!”.

But it actually did! People have all kinds of different opportunities when they are “better off”. I know we don’t want to admit it, but it is what it is. When I started to change my mindset around that and being honest with myself, I realized that I was the only one in the way of making, or not, more money and creating a better financial situation for myself.

So how can you change your mindset and attitude to start creating a new plan for your life? Well, first you have to want it. I can tell you every single day that you have to change your life because you will be the one that most benefits from it, but if you don’t want to… you won’t do it! What’s your why?

What do you want? Why do you want it?

So, get a pen and some paper and write a list of what you want out of life. Do you want to change jobs? Do you want to get the right job? Do you want a partner? Do you want to go out to dinner every single day? Do you want to have a week off for every 6 weeks you work? I really don’t know what you want, so you will have to figure it out yourself! For me it was, to come home, leave my work, and start my own business. let’s go with that as an example so that you know what I did to get to where I am (and I’m very far from where I want to be, just so we are clear!!!).

What are your values?

Once you have decided on one area of your life you want to change, think about your values. What is really important to you? Your core values, something you won’t compromise, no matter what! This is going to really inform what you are willing to do, or not, give up, or not… you see where I’m going with this! You can check out more about values here.

Have fun!

Then, start mind mapping. Mind mapping is probably one of the most fun exercises ever and I love doing it. I recently got introduced to Joy Mapping and it’s been life changing for me. So, now that you know what you want to change, you know what your values are, it’s time to write what matters the most to you in your life. There’s a small workbook, that I created, with all the steps that you can grab here that will guide you during this exercise.

If you do this exercise, you will get closer to what you want in life and you’ll have a small step you can take straight away to start on your new journey! Now, I just explained what you need to do to create a plan for your life, but you will see that this works for your money as well! What are you willing to do, or not, to achieve financial stability? What does financial stability mean to you? Because it’s not the same that it is for me, I’m sure of that!

Money is important.

When I say that money is one of the most important things in life, I mean it! However, of course, health and love are equally important! But if you are going to struggle with health issues, I want you to have a lot of money, because otherwise, you are going to struggle a lot more. I don’t want a lot of money so I can have freedom… actually, that’s exactly why I want a lot of money! But I want a lot of money so that I can have a comfortable life when I’m most uncomfortable, and that for me is health issues, or losing someone I love, or ageing… but let’s not talk about that last one yet!!! 🙅‍♀️

Was this is helpful? Did it motivate you to want to create a plan for your life and/or money? because it’s important and it also gives us a sense of taking things into our own hands. You know, we make things happen instead of “letting” them happen to us.
