Last week I shared with you our family budget.
It’s probably very different from yours and it serves as an example of how to do a budget. We actually struggled to get it to where it is, and truth be told, this month I’m going to be over the budget for groceries. Once again, yes, I know Easter comes once a year 40 days after mardi gras! But, I didn’t think I’d need to buy anything extra because, we can’t have friends or family over. It turns out there’s no meat and we have to buy some. Meat is kind of expensive and sometimes it happens that I ran over my budget. What can I say? Life happens and we have to dal with it.
That being said, I’m going to run by you the percentages that are recommended for a balanced budget, in a perfect world, of course.
I used these amounts so that it’s easy to see how much each percentage is! Of course you do it with your real pay check. But the percentages are the same, except in a pay check of $2500 you are going to have $625 for housing, as an example.
Once you get the hang of it it’s much easier than it seems. It really is just a question of habit, once you start budgeting for a couple of months you won’t even need a calculator… maybe!
