Turning 50 is a milestone that marks a period of reflection, renewal, and reinvention. It’s an opportunity to embrace the wisdom of your experiences while crafting a vibrant, fulfilling future. Let’s let go of 25 year olds on social media telling us that “there’s still time to turn your life around” and Harrison Buttkiss tell us our life really only starts when we marry him. Here’s how to live our best life at 50, or beyond, free from stress and comparison, while creating financial abundance.
1. Embrace the Present and Let Go of the Past
- Release Regrets
Past mistakes are lessons, not life sentences. Acknowledge your past, learn from it, and let go. Holding onto regret only hinders your progress and happiness. Practice self-compassion and remind yourself that you did the best you could with the knowledge you had at the time.
- Mindfulness and Meditation
Incorporate mindfulness and meditation into your daily routine. These practices help you stay present, reduce stress, and foster a sense of peace. If you aren’t a subscriber to Life Mastery Magazine, you might think about it as (I’m biassed for saying this as I am the co-founder of the Magazine!!) it’s a publication that supports you through creating and achieving your best life and unlocking your full potential in all areas.
- Gratitude Practice
Start a gratitude journal. Every day, write down three things you’re grateful for. This simple practice shifts your focus from what you lack to what you have, fostering a positive outlook on life. June’s Life Mastery Magazine edition is all about Self-Empowerment and Self-Development and there’s a Gratitude challenge that will help you with this.
2. Create a Positive Digital Environment
- Unfollow and Curate
Social media can be a double-edged sword. Curate your feed to include content that inspires and uplifts you. Unfollow accounts that make you feel inadequate or stressed. Follow those that provide value, whether through education, motivation, or entertainment.
- Limit Screen Time
Set boundaries for your social media use. Designate specific times of the day for checking your accounts, and avoid aimless scrolling. Use this saved time to engage in activities that enrich your life, such as reading, exercising, or spending quality time with loved ones. For me scrolling on social media just before bed is a sure way to get nightmares so… maybe that’s a boundary I should set…
- Engage Meaningfully
Use social media to connect meaningfully with friends and family, rather than as a platform for comparison. Engage in positive discussions, share your experiences, and support others.
3. Foster Financial Abundance
Create a comprehensive financial plan. Evaluate your current financial situation, set realistic goals, and develop a strategy to achieve them. I have a lot of resources, paid and free, to start you on your financial planning. Check them out and try some of them out to figure out which one is the best system for you.
- Diversify Income Streams
Explore ways to diversify your income. This could mean getting a part time job or starting your own side hustle. ATTENTION: avoid engaging in “get rich fast” schemes or things like “your first million in 30 days” because that’s not true and you are usually asked to “invest” first, because you need money to make money. If you do have money and are in a position to invest, then you might think of investing in stocks, or real estate. Multiple income streams provide financial security and open up opportunities for wealth accumulation.
- Smart Spending
Adopt a mindful approach to spending. Differentiate between needs and wants, and make purchases that add value to your life. Practice frugality without sacrificing quality of life.
- Invest in Personal Growth
You know that I believe that knowledge is power! Invest in yourself through education and skill development. Continuous learning keeps your mind sharp and can open new career opportunities. Whether it’s taking a course, attending workshops, or reading books, expanding your knowledge base is always a wise investment.
4. Cultivate a Healthy Lifestyle
- Physical Health
Prioritize your physical health by maintaining a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep. Activities like yoga, walking, or strength training can enhance your physical well-being and reduce stress. This has nothing to do with losing weight or having to “look” different to be successful. When you feel better in your body and mind, you will make better choices, that’s just what happens. When you hydrate your body, your head is clearer, fact.
- Mental and Emotional Health
Don’t neglect your mental health. Seek therapy or counseling if needed, and practice self-care. Engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation, whether it’s gardening, painting, or sitting in your rocking chair daydreaming, it’s a thing!
- Social Connections
Nurture your relationships. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people who uplift and encourage you. Strong social connections are crucial for mental and emotional well-being.
5. Live with Purpose and Passion
- Set Goals
Setting goals gives your life direction and purpose. Whether it’s traveling to a new country, learning a new skill, or starting a new hobby, goals keep you motivated and engaged.
- Volunteer and Give Back
Find ways to give back to your community. Volunteering not only helps others but also brings a sense of fulfillment and purpose to your life. It’s a powerful way to create positive change and feel connected to a greater cause. I don’t work on Fridays and that’s become known as my “volunteer day”. As an expat I got a lot of help and support when I moved to this new country and I really feel more fulfilled now that I’m in a position to give back to this community that is now mine.
- Pursue Your Passions
Reconnect with activities that bring you joy and satisfaction. Whether it’s a hobby you’ve neglected or a new interest you want to explore, make time for passions that ignite your spirit.
Living your best life at 50 and beyond is about embracing where you are, letting go of past burdens, and creating a future filled with personal fulfillment and financial abundance. By focusing on the present and curating your surroundings, you can lead a life that is not only successful but also deeply satisfying.
Remember, it’s never too late to start living your best life. 😉
