Hello there! The title is totally legit! Maybe you already know this, or maybe you don’t, but yes, I do believe this is a BFF fits all.
It’s true, if ten years ago you came to me and told me that a Budget would become my best friend forever I would’ve thought, I wouldn’t have said it, that you were cray-cray!
Who on earth likes budgeting anyway? Is it a thing? Does everyone really budget? Is it like a cult? Who even came u with it?, all this and more passed through my head when the thought of creating a budget to figure out how messed up our finances really were, came into my head. Satan put the thought into my head for sure!!! So I gave it a year or two to mull over in my head before I took the thought seriously.
You see, the thought came and I didn’t take it seriously, I did however, start researching budgets and how many types of budgets there were, did they really work (apparently not if you don’t!) and then I met him… Dave Ramsay. I saw him there, on the screen of my computer and immediately I didn’t like him. He was saying all the stuff I didn’t want to hear and he dared say he had proof that his method worked! What?! Crazy!
So one day, I was feeling brave and I decided to take the bull by the horns and got a bank statement, a pen, paper and… it was downhill from there on… I cried and cried and stopped that nonsense. I mean, seriously? If we needed to live on a budget someone would’ve said something at sometime, right? Apparently no. This one only a few have figured out and the secret is well kept because no one I knew had a budget and if they did it was only to see if they could get another line of credit to spend a little more.
You guessed what happened next, I caved and I did it and I cried a lot over the years but hey, here I stand, debt free and who do I owe it to? Yep, My BFF the Budget. Ok, Dave Ramsay kind of kept kicking me along the way, I fell off the budget wagon a couple of times but I finally got here. And I’m a little proud of myself for sticking to it (kind’a) but I have realised that to really, really be successful with your budget is:
1) No judgement people! don’t feel bad because it’s really hard and sometimes with the best of intentions we tell a friend or even a family member and we feel judged by the little comments and that s—s,
2) Get an awesome accountability partner in your corner! Can’t stress this one enough, it really is a must and it can save you lots of time and lots of money on your journey!
My last advice for you, it’s not really mine it’s Rachel Cruze’s, but are words I live by, a budget is permission to spend! Think about it…
